Start out with a nice warm up climb up a paved road, followed by nice sigletrack climb through some narrow switch-backs and some rock gardens. Levels out for some rolling singletrack. From here on, it is climb a little, enjoy some nice down hill. There are only 2 areas that I would call 'really technical' (THE switchback, and the boulder) but the rest of the trail will keep you on your toes, while still allowing your helmet to whistle in the wind. Since this is private property, you will either have to buy a day pass or a season pass at Don't try to poach, there are rangers out there most of the time.
From US highway 101, take the Central San Rafael exit. Turn west on 3rd street, and travel 1.5 miles. 3rd street merges into 4th street, and then into Red Hill Avenue. Continue on Red Hill for another 0.7 miles. Red Hill Ave merges into Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Follow SFD for another 2.2 miles. (The map below covers the western end of the Sir Francis Drake route and the turns from SFD to Iron Springs Road). Turn left onto Olema Rd. Travel 0.1 miles. Turn left on Manor. Travel 50 yards. Turn right on Rockridge. Travel 0.1 miles. Turn left on Iron Springs Road. Camp Tamarancho is at the end of Iron Springs Rd, about 2.0 miles. You can't park on the camp property, so you will have to park at the bottom of the road and ride up. Sorry.
